Recent Events - Spring 2010 SemesterFebruary 15th: Guest Speaker Event with Dr. Cynthia Kuper, CEO of Versilant NanotechnologiesThe Penn Nanotech Society, will be hosting an exciting upcoming speaker event with Dr. Cynthia Kuper, CEO of Versilant Nanotechnologies. Versilant Nanotechnologies is Southeast Pennsylvania's first materials-based nanotechnology company. Led by Dr. Cynthia Kuper, the company buys raw nanotechnology materials and uses patent-pending processing methods to develop these materials for commercial usage in industries such as avionics, sporting goods, automotive and aerospace.Dr. Kuper will be speaking about her career in nanotechnology, what it takes to launch a successful startup in the growing nanotechnology industry, as well as answering any questions that you may have regarding entrepreneurship in the nanotechnology field. Recent Events - Fall 2009 SemesterNovember 10th: Nanotea at Saxby'sDon’t forget to RSVP for our event this Tuesday! We’ll be hosting our first Nanotea of the semester at 8:00pm at Saxby’s Coffee FREE to all Penn Nanotech Society members. This is an excellent occasion for members of the Society to sit down in an informal setting to discuss a recently published article or scholarly publication regarding recent developments in specific areas of nanotechnology.This Tuesday’s topic will be “Nanotechnology in Batteries”, focusing on two recently published articles for the MIT Technology Review. October 22nd: Lunch with Dr. Daniel S. Gianola - "Deformation of Materials at the Nanoscale"We will be holding a lunch event, fully catered, with Assistant Professor Daniel Gianola of the Materials Science and Engineering Department. Dr. Gianola's interests lie in the area of nanomechanics, and his research program focuses on understanding, modeling and predicting the mechanical response of advanced materials at reduced length scales. His experimental studies at Penn use new methodologies for the quantitative mechanical testing of materials at the nanoscale and state-of-the-art electron microscopy techniques to observe the processes that govern their behavior.This is a great opportunity for all students interested in learning more about nanotechnology to meet the newest addition to the MSE Department staff, as well as ask any questions pertaining to Dr. Gianola's research in this rapidly developing field of science.
